Super heros needed to ‘Bowl for Kids’ Sake’

Whether you roll strikes or gutter balls, Big Brothers Big Sisters wants keglers to participate in  this year’s “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” — a community challenge to support at-risk youth and families in El Dorado County.

This family-friendly event takes place on two Saturdays. The first date is March 9 at Folsom Bowl, 511 East Bidwell Street in Folsom, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the second tourney is on March 16 at Knotty Pines Lanes, 2667 Sanders Drive in Pollock Pines, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This year’s super hero themed event — come dressed as your favorite super hero — will include two games of bowling for each team, all-you-can-eat pizza, non-alcoholic beverages for bowlers and plenty of music to get the ball rolling.

Bowling teams generally consist of groups of four to six friends, family, co-workers or neighbors.

Each team is aiming to raise at least $500. The team with the most pledges will take home a trophy and other fun awards.

“This is a Big Brother Big Sister signature fundraiser and one of our most important events of the year,” said Judy Knapp, executive director of BBBS of El Dorado County. “Because 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to our agency, bowlers can take joy in knowing they are directly supporting a big/little match right here in our community. Plus, it’s a fun and friendly way to promote community connections and jointly support our important mentoring programs, while enjoying some spirited competition.”

The event also provides a great opportunity for companies to foster co-worker team-building, for families to spend quality time together, and for new and old friends to strengthen their relationships — all while supporting a great cause, Knapp said.

Bowling teams are forming now and signing up is easy.
