supply sargeantWhen searching for a gift for that person who loves the outdoors or one who needs work clothes, look no further than Ed Arian’s Supply Sergeant located on Main Street in Placerville.

“Basically we are an old-fashioned Army Navy store,” said Kevin Hutton, manager. “We also carry a large amount of work wear such as boots and rain gear but we still also carry lots of old Army Navy surplus and a large supply of knives.”

The store, located at 469 Main St., also features camping, survival gear, snow wear and other items that you might not expect.

Hutton said that during the holidays customers tend to purchase a lot of knives, flashlights and work wear.

“We do carry a lot of the work wear and the knives and things but also at the same time, we carry a lot of the Frisbee Golf equipment,” Hutton said. “We carry skateboards and skateboard supplies. “It’s just a very diverse store. We have a lot of camping stuff. We do a lot of stuff for outback campers and doomsday preppers.”

In addition, you can find insect repellant, first aid kits, snake bite kits, river rafting gear bags, camp food, cast iron cookware, mess kits and tents. Everything for a lover of the outdoors.

He added the store has good prices on items and people should come on in and take a look.

“We try to be a lot cheaper than anyone else in town,” he said. “We also always try to be really well stocked.”

Hutton also said the variety in the store is also a draw to all ages. Shoppers young and old can find something.

Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

When I moved to the area a few years ago and visited my parents in Placerville for the first time, I had to stop in The Supply Sergeant, having been a regular customer of its sister shops in the Los Angeles area. Much to my surprise, I recognized one of the employees, whom I knew from the Santa Monica shop who'd moved to this area earlier!! Funny how small the world is.
