Tamra Godey, Mike James and Billy Buckman are putting on a unique night of “Storytelling, Hippiefolk and Americana” at the Cozmic Café, 594 Main St. in Placerville, on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Billy Buckman is a singer-songwriter story-teller in the folk/Americana genre and has two CDs out, “American Heroes” and “Blue Grass Blues.” Buckman is a seasoned entertainer that can captivate an audience in the style of Chuck Brodsky and Woody Guthrie.
Tamra Godey started singing and matching harmonies with her brothers at a very young age. She was writing songs when she was just 7 years old. Deeply influenced by the soulful and flawless voices of Carol King, Gladys Knight and John Denver, she writes of life experiences and things that move the spirit.
After playing guitar all of her life and performing at private functions, she began performing professionally in 2004. Since then, and hundreds of gigs later, her sultry voice has filled the air of dozens of Northern California small venues, bars, restaurants and wineries, including the American River Music Festival annually since 2007, and the Fair Play Wine Festival annually since 2005.
Her song style has been described as soulful in ballad, blues and folk Americana. With folk story-telling woven throughout her songs her compositions are thought provoking, funny and moving. Paired with a 4-octave vocal range and uniquely beautiful voice her music takes you to another place.
She has been compared to artists ranging from Norah Jones to Joan Biaz to Bonnie Raitt.
Singer/songwriter Mike James has his own unique style, which he calls hippiefolk. It combines an earthy, soulful, acoustic, guitar driven roots music, with creative vocal melodies, and passionate lyrics from the soul.
He sings from the heart about love, life, spirituality, God, and the connections we all experience. He has a powerful spiritual message to deliver to the world, with a little twang.
