gold 523 379 Main St. in Placerville, through June 1, is featuring Karen Hunziker, who works in mixed media consisting of ink, watercolor pens and pastel. Hunziker’s work is based on Russian folk art. Also featured are Lori Anderson’s vibrant and colorful pastoral scenes in oil and acrylic and Lorrene Davis’s unique jewelry designs in polymer clay and silver. The cooperative gallery of 50 local professional artists is open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. with extended hours until 9 p.m. for Third Saturday Art Walk on June 21. This month the artists have tried to present the theme “Wilderness” in their artwork throughout the gallery. Face in a Book, 4359 Town Center Blvd., Suite 113, in El Dorado Hills, will have Mark Wiederanders, author of “Stevenson’s Treasure’” on Friday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. Wiederanders’ story is the fictional account of a dramatic year in Robert Louis Stevenson’s Life — the year he set out on a romantic, ill-advised but ultimately successful quest to win the woman he loved.
