Time to enter the county fair

Come and fulfill your country dreams at the El Dorado County Fair June 13-16.

“This year, we have many new and revised categories from which to choose, guaranteeing a competition everyone will want to enter,” said the El Dorado County Fair’s CEO Jody Gray. “The Fair is a great place to show off that great photo you took of a beautiful sunset, cute puppy or just about anything your camera or iphone can capture. Try creating a table setting with items that you can get at a thrift shop or out of your kitchen. There are so many things that you can enter and show off at the fair. It’s fun and addicting — there is nothing like the anticipation of opening of the fair to see if you have that ribbon attached to your entry.”

The fair is constantly improving its division choices to provide exhibitors with up-to-date and new classes in the Entry Guide.

For example, new in 2013, not all professional photography needs to be framed — there will be classes for both framed and non-framed work for pros — and since we moved into a larger building, there is no longer a photography entry limitation — everyone can enter as many photos as they’d like.

In addition, the computer section has been completely revised to include many graphic design classes, blogs, WordPress, mobile aps, JavaScript programming and more.

The fair has added new divisions in the baking and confections category including ugliest cake decorating and men’s only baking.

In the preserved foods category, there is a new division called sassy sauce, where exhibitors can enter their sassiest and most prized recipes with “sassy” in the title.

The wine label competition was revised to include classical, label series, whimsical, artistic and painted/etched bottle classes.

Never entered your work in a competition before?

The El Dorado County Fair is a great place to start. Increase your confidence, showcase your skills and wow the judges. Whatever your passion, there is a way to enter it into the fair.

Enter in one of the divisions listed above or check out the entry guide on the fair Website at EldoradoCountyFair.org for more options.

Three easy steps to enter the El Dorado County Fair

1. Complete the entry form found at EldoradoCountyFair.org or in the fair office.
2. Mail or bring the entry form and appropriate fees to the fair office, 100 Placerville Drive in Placerville, by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 to get a discounted rate.
3. Bring your entry to be judged and exhibited to the fairgrounds on the receiving day of the appropriate department as listed in the entry guide.

Also new this year: If you miss the entry deadline, you can turn in your entry form and enter your item on receiving day with a higher entry fee — see fee assigned in each department.

South Lake Tahoe residents can drop off their entry forms and entries at the South Lake Tahoe Library the week of May 13 during library hours (Tuesday through Saturday) and fair personnel will pick them up.

Entry forms are available at eldoradocountyfair.org/entry-forms.html.

The 2013 El Dorado Country Fair, themed “Blue Jeans and Country Dreams,” will take place Thursday through Sunday, June 13 through 16, at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds, 100 Placerville Drive in Placerville.
