VA introduces virtual and community wellness center

SACRAMENTO – In March, VA Northern California Health Care System will release an interactive, Web-based Virtual and Community Wellness Center (VCWC) which will reach out to veterans in their local communities to help them achieve well being through a Veteran-centered network of community and healthcare resources at their convenience.

Veterans can use the VCWC to access the wellness and chronic disease programming that is right for them.

The VA is working to empower veterans on their journey toward health by providing them a way to form a proactive health plan that works within their communities and honors their choices.

VCWC will include information on an extensive number of veteran-centered health programs that include veteran-to-veteran mentoring and health coaches who will be available by request.

Community events calendars and forums will allow veterans to gather and share information about VA health promotion activities such as cooking demonstrations, gardening and Wii bowling, as well as community-based resources, events and programs.

Many of the VCWC activities will be group offerings which allow veterans to bond around healthy activities and foster a sense of community while combating isolation.

Some of the programs scheduled for veterans are: improving sleep, stress management, smoking cessation, meal planning, cooking class, housing resources and a health fair.

Veterans can also contribute information about other local activities and resources as well as request additional classes or programs from the VA for their communities.

The VCWC network demonstrates VA’s commitment to provide outreach to communities by providing opportunities for engagement and empowerment to our Veterans.
