“An Evening of Wine and Roses will be a good social event for people to get together and donate toward a worthy cause,” Norma Wilson, Marshall Hospital Auxiliary member said.

The night of wine tasting and the chance to get fabulous prizes has the added benefit of raising money to contribute to the new wing at Marshall Medical Center.

An Evening of Wine and Roses is Saturday, Sept. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilkinson Hupcey Building, 681 Main St. in Placerville. It is presented by the Marshall Hospital Auxiliary.

Tickets are $25 per person or $37.50 for two in advance and $30 person the day of the event.

For advance tickets call the Marshall Hospital Gift Shop at 530-626-2725. For additional information, contact Norma Wilson at 530-676-1844, Dorothea Boyd at 530-622-4422 or Mary O’Brien at 530-677-3543.

Last year, the auxiliary raised about $11,000 for the new birthing wing, noted Jean Yaws, publicity chairwoman for the auxiliary. That money combined with money from the gift shop sales over the last two years is more than $65,000.
Approximately $700,000 has been raised since the event started seven years ago.

This year eight wineries are taking part in the soirée noted Wilson, one of the auction chairwoman.

What goes good with samples of wine is good food and eight local restaurants will be participating.

Many businesses and individuals contribute to the success of the evening by donating silent auction items and prizes.

“The merchants are still very generous in helping us,” Wilson said.

O’Brien, another chairwoman, said some of the items on the silent auction block are purses, jewelry, a picture from the Thomas Kinkade Gallery in Placerville, wine from some of the wineries, various theme baskets such as a champagne and Thanksgiving Day basket, candle sticks and a wine rack.

Some of the door prizes will be jewelry, a yard decoration, barbecue items and a Christmas basket, Wilson said.

Boyd, another chairwoman, enjoys organizing this event.

“I’ve been very involved in the auxiliary for 22 years,” said Boyd, 81, who moved to Placerville 22 years ago from Orange County.

Rachel Cargill of Country With Class, a local country music band, is scheduled to perform for the second year, Wilson said.
