Choices for Children presents Kids’ Expo

Choices for Children is presenting Kids’ Expo on Saturday, April 9, at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Kids’ Expo has been a free event for 26 years and is held during the month of April to recognize the Month of the Young Child & Child Abuse Prevention Month. Over the years Kids’ Expo has grown into a popular, communitywide celebration with over 100 hands-on activities offered by local community organizations, businesses, and clubs. It is a great opportunity for families to enjoy the day and learn about programs and services available in the community.

Kids’ Expo is made possible due to the generous support from community sponsors who value children and families. Choices for Children thanks Major Sponsors El Dorado County Office of Education, Millennium Sports Club, Marshall Medical and the Mountain Democrat for their generous support. (See the event map for a complete list of sponsors.)

Start your morning at the Choices for Children booth by getting a map of the event and decorating a bag to collect all of the free give-aways. As a new offering, Choices for Children will also be conducting voter registration to encourage eligible voters to make their voices heard especially when there are so many decisions being made that will impact children and families.

This year’s Kids’ Expo will feature an abundance of indoor and outdoor activities that are sure to engage and thrill children. Exciting activities available indoors include gymnastics, prize wheels, melted crayon drawing, button making, watercolor painting, creating an animal habitat, and many more. Outdoors the Swan Brothers Circus will create smiles and laughter with slapstick clowning, juggling, comedy magic, and lots of audience participation. Also outdoors will be a fire truck, patrol car, school buses, small animals, prize wheels and a dental van. In the Organ Room to entertain there will be a full performance schedule with children’s dance groups, gymnastics and exciting martial arts and cheer demonstrations. (For a complete list of activities and organizations, see the map.)

Choices for Children Director Jennifer Lawrence said, “Kids’ Expo gives us the opportunity to put families at the center of a community of support services.”

Other services offered by Choices for Children include: help finding child care, help paying for child care, support networks for Family Child Care Homes and Centers, a resource lending library open to the community, workshops and educational opportunities for parents, teachers and providers, Play & Learn groups and Child Care Food Program reimbursements for nutritious meals served to children. Choices for Children is committed to providing a full range of innovative services to enrich children’s lives.
