Jamie Rachel Merritt, Oak Ridge High School
College: Oregon State University, studying environmental science and Spanish with an international degree
Career goal: I will either choose to pursue a career in environmental law, teaching environmental science or working for a large international company that works to protect the earth.
Community involvement: I was president of the National Honor Society as a senior in high school. With that job, I participated and began numerous community service projects such as Valentine’s Day Carnation sales, finals tutoring and attending a Watershed Education Summit where I helped to survey and record data from rivers and streams. I also played soccer for 13 years in the El Dorado Hills Soccer Club while also assisting the club by being a coach, referee, co-age group coordinator and registration volunteer. Lastly, I have held some jobs in the community such as being a lifeguard and swim instructor at the local community services district and being an employee at San Francisco Sourdough Eatery in town.
Where I see myself in 10 years: I see myself with a job that allows me to travel the world, helping the environment and educating others about the importance of protecting the earth. If not that, than I see myself teaching high school the same concepts while beginning a family perhaps in Colorado or somewhere else with lots of trees!
