Steven Haugaard, Union Mine High School
College: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, studying civil engineering.
Career goal: I would like to get a job in structural engineering design since I enjoy learning math and the sciences. Structural engineering seems like a creative way to use these skills in real life applications.
Community involvement: I have been involved in various volunteer work, on my own and through school organizations. Currently, I am part of the Cal Poly Society of Civil Engineers Club, which does various projects in the community. Through the SCE, I participated in Cal Poly’s Build an Engineer Day, with the goal being to teach young kids about what engineers do.
Where I see myself in 10 years: I hope to have graduated from Cal Poly with my master’s degree in civil engineering. I would like to have passed the Professional Engineering exam to become a licensed professional engineer in California and have a good job and be working on projects that will benefit the community.
