Speedway: 2014 race season fires up tomorrow

The 2014 racing season begins Saturday at Placerville Speedway.

The opening of the new Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort-Hoosier Racing Tires Championship season presented by the Mountain Democrat and Coors Light at the quarter-mile clay oval kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying followed by racing. Front gates open at 5 p.m.

Tomorrow’s opener will include winged Sprint Cars, Limited Late Models, Pure Stocks and the visiting Nor Cal Dwarf Cars.

The Sprint Cars, Late Models and Pure Stocks will form Placerville’s three regular divisions and will be joined throughout the year by a variety of visiting divisions, bringing a four-division program to the quarter-mile clay oval nearly every Saturday.

The Bay Cities Racing Association makes 10 different appearances. The mighty midgets will race on the red high banks three different times while the Midget Lites will be a common visitor throughout the year with more than a half a dozen appearances.

The Nor Cal Dwarf Cars are slated for five different appearance. The Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Shootout will join in the action for a pair of nights on April 26 and June 21. A new addition to season will include the Nor Cal Dirt Modified Tour on Aug 23.

The Mountain Democrat presents Kids Night Aug. 16 followed the next day by the 41st annual Placerville Police Officers Hangtown Destruction Derby.

The King of the West Sprint Cars bring the fire-breathing 410 sprint cars to Hangtown on April 19 and July 17. The Civil War Sprint Car Series rolls into Placerville May 31 and Aug. 9, the annual Mark Forni Classic which pays $5,000 to the winner.

The 2014 racing season concludes with the annual Thompson’s Auto and Truck Center Tribute to Al Hinds on Sept. 13.

Tickets for Saturday’s opener will be available at the gate. Adult tickets are $15, juniors $12, seniors $13 and children $6.
