It was the best against the west and Wednesday night the west won as Mason Moore picked up his first Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series victory with a win in the second annual Bullring Nationals at Placerville Speedway.

Drawing the No. 3 pill in the redraw, Moore, from Princeton, California, followed Tony Bruce Jr. and Gary Wright to the green. Called back for a false start, Bruce’s Oil Medics No. 18 won the drag race to the inside groove entering turn one.

Pulling to a five-car length advantage in very little time, Bruce worked into slower traffic on lap seven as Moore’s Insurance Services No. 22 pulled up in a hurry before the caution waved for Brady Bacon’s Fatheadz Eyewear No. 99 after contact with another driver flattened his left rear tire. Bacon returned to the track after going to the work area.

Restarting with 11 laps complete, the caution was displayed again on lap 13 as Justin Johnson spun out. Unable to return, Johnson ended up 24th.

Single file past the cone, the Pro Auto No. 18 of Bruce Jr. continued to lead with Moore and Wright in tow. Racing again toward slower traffic, the red flag was called after a seven car pile-up ensued in turns one and two on lap 17; collecting Bruce Jr. in the process though he did continue.

Taking the green for the final time in the 30-lap affair, the Coors Light No. 22 of Moore assumed the lead.

Catching the back of the field with five laps remaining, Moore had Gary Wright breathing down his neck but as the checkered flag fell the California driver would not be denied.

“I knew I was quick in lapped traffic when I was all over them. Once I got by Gary just a few laps in I was just hunting down Tony (Bruce) but I didn’t want to win that way,” Moore said. “I would have rather passed him in traffic or something like that but a win is a win; I’ll take it.”

Wright held on to second with Jason Johnson battling to third in the closing laps after an impressive run from 14th. Willie Croft claimed fourth with Johnny Herrera rounding out the top five.

Greg DeCaries crossed the line sixth with Nick Green seventh. Brad Loyet took eighth from 18th after racing his way into the show via a B-Feature win with Wayne Johnson climbing from 15th to ninth and Jimmy Trulli rounding out the top 10.

The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV continues their west coast swing tomorrow at Kings Speedway in Hanford, California. Additional information is available at ascsracing.com.
