Strong pitching from Zach Terry and Adam Washabaugh in the first game and Logan Quick in the second paired with timely hitting paced the host California Academy of Baseball to 8-0 and 3-1 wins over Hard 90 at El Dorado High Wednesday.

Zach Culp led off in the top of the first against Hard 90 starter JL Chiappe and roped a single through the middle. A couple of walks loaded the bases and Culp came home on a Nick Bonniksen sacrifice fly.

Terry cruised through the first inning and in the second, Louis Merlo reached on an error and scored on a fielder’s choice ground ball by Culp. In the bottom of the frame Terry retired the Hard 90 batters in order, preserving the 2-0 advantage.

CAB blew open the game in the third, sending nine hitters to the plate. Ryan Rodriguez doubled in a pair, Merlo knocked in a run on a groundout and Bonniksen scored on a wild pitch as CAB took a 6-0 lead.

Hard 90’s first batter in the bottom of the third reached on but the next three batters were retired. Andrew Child came into pitch for Hard 90 in the fourth and induced three consecutive fly outs but Terry answered with a 1-2-3 inning of his own, and CAB got another run in on an error.

Hard 90 loaded the bases in the fifth on a pair of singles from Jordan Wright and Andrew Child before Terry struck the next two out. CAB scored their eighth run of the game in the seventh,

Washabaugh came on in the bottom of the inning to close it out. After getting the first batter to pop out, the next two Hard 90 hitters walked. Washabaugh recorded a strikeout and got Anthony Rivett to ground out to end the game.

Quick threw 79 pitches in his complete game victory. He allowed seven hits, fanned four and walked one. Hard 90′s run came in the seventh.

CAB’s runs came on Rodriguez’ sacrifice fly to score Culp; Vince Ross’ sacrifice fly to plate Kevin Morrison; and Matt Smith’s RBI double to score Bonniksen.
