EL DORADO — Host Union Mine and El Dorado each took home wins from Wednesday’s Sierra Valley Conference meet at the Western Slope Aquatic Center — the D’backs winning 115-54 for boys and the Lady Cougars prevailing 122-47.

The inclement weather failed to slow El Dorado’s girls who took first in each event. Kyle Covington won three individual races: the 100 and 200 meter freestyle swims and the 100 backstroke. She joined a combination of Hannah and Molly Covington, Kaela Marcus, Marissa Garcia, Maddie Salerno and Katryna Holifield-Helm in two of the Cougars’ three relay wins.

Marcus touched first for the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly while remaining victories were divided between Garcia (200IM), Holifield-Helm (50 free) and Marcella Jacquemain (500 free).

The D’back girls had second place finishes from Caffrey Lynch (100 free, 100 back); the relay team of Savannah Day, Brionna Schafer, Bianca Zuniga, Lynch (200FR); and the relay team of  Kaitlin Lishman, Zuniga, Shayna Weiner and Lerin Pivoda (400FR).

El Dorado’s Matt Coen enjoyed wins for the 50 free, the 100 free and the 200 free relay with Cameron Neeley, Marcus Holifield-Helm and Dylan Thompson but after that it was all Union Mine touching first.

D’back Jason Williams easy beat the field to win the 200 free and 100 fly races. He was also a part of the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay teams that won.

After Williams, Devlen Whisler took first for the 100 individual medley and 500 free races and the two Union Mine relay team wins; Sean Verbitsky backstroked his way to winning that 100 meter distance; and Marcos Warda won the 100 breaststroke race. Warda also swam on both relay team wins.
