El Dorado wins tri-meet

Makayla Hoyt stood tall for the El Dorado High girls track team at Wednesday’s tri-Sierra Valley Conference home meet against Galt and Liberty Ranch.

The 6-foot-1 sophomore took first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a season personal best time and also took first in the high jump and second in the 300 hurdles.

“I like the 100 meter hurdles because it’s real exciting,” Hoyt said. “When you compete, it’s fast.”

Hoyt helped the Lady Cougars to 124-3 wins over Galt and Liberty Ranch. Taking first place finishes in multiple events were Jamie Chelberg in the 800 and 1600 meters races, and Arianna Pizzuti in the 200 and 400.

“I think our team is really strong, and we are all really good athletes,” Hoyt said.

El Dorado head coach Peanut Harms added, “Makayla is an amazing track athlete and great competitor. As she continues to get structurally stronger the sky is the limit to where she can go in this sport.”

The El Dorado boys track squad also had an easy time against Liberty Ranch and Galt, posting 129-5 and 99-37 wins respectively.

“It is very difficult to get the kids motivated when going against such small teams,” Harms said.

Three Cougars also shined in multiple events. Boone Bates was first in the 800 and 1600 meter races. In the shorter races, Garrett Scalaro was also first in the 200 and 400 meter races. Cambron Lyles finished tops in the 110 hurdles and the pole vault.
