El Dorado’s swim team shook off the the rain and cold last Wednesday to post double Sierra Valley Conference victories against visiting Cosumnes Oaks — the Cougar girls winning 123-47 while the boys prevailed 99-71.
For the fourth straight meet, the girls won every single event.
“The girls team is so strong that at this point it doesn’t matter who I put into what event,” El Dorado coach Marc Hughes said.
Ellen Tiedemann brought home the gold in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle with times of 26.35 and 58.04, respectively.
Marissa Garcia took first in the 200 Individual Medley (2:24.82) and 500 free (5:42.76); Kyle Covington took first in the 100 butterfly (1:09.51) and 100 backstroke (1:08.89); Rose Christeson touched first in the 200 IM (2:10.13) and Haley Owens placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.33).
The team of Christeson, Covington, Garcia and Tiedemann placed first in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:50.21) and the 400 FR relay (4:06.70). The 200 Medley Relay team of Kaela Marcus, Owens, Hannah Covington and Shelby Ganzert also came in first with a time of 2:06.00.
For the Cougar boys, Andrew Coen won the 100 free (51.30) and 200 free (1:55.93), Mac Guinn won the 200 IM (2:18.03) and 100 fly (1:00.02 ), Daniel Pope touched first in the 50 free (23.24), and Will Meigs won the 100 back (1:07.36).
The boys 200 FR relay team of Pope, Guinn, Coen and Michael Webb took first with a time of 1:39.21. The 400 FR relay team of Pope, Guinn, A. Coen and Matt Coen finished the meet with a winning time of 3:38.48.
“This meet was very encouraging for us,” Hughes said. ”They came in here with a couple of the fastest swimmers in the league but at the end of the day though our swimmers ( A. Coen, Guinn, Pope) beat their guys.”
