Kylie Haverson’s stop of a Golden Sierra penalty kick with minutes left preserved El Dorado’s 1-1 tie with the visiting Grizzlies.
Tuesday’s late-season nonleague intra-county matchup saw a successful Cougar PK by Kaylynn Cuddy tie the match with 20 minutes.
Haverson (12 saves) held her ground on Kaitlyn Swatski’s PK attempt, batting away the low liner and recovering to snare a follow shot. The last five minutes featured both squad’s efforts to break the stalemate but neither budged on the scoreboard.
Golden Sierra’s quick defensive backfield of Olivia Costin, Laura Russel, Sage McArthur and Rachel Hanson in front of keeper Jenna Pendzinski (six saves) were a step ahead of El Dorado’s attempt to set up Rachael Beam, Cuddy, Kristin Teehee, Mariah Thompson and others up front.
The Grizzlies countered behind Jazmin Lutey-Willard, Breeze Baiz, Melissa Comstock, Robin Moore, Alexa Chiaratti, Emily Anderson and Jenna Matyac against Cougar defenders Riley Weinhold, Karla Reyes, Claire McGill and Jo Cade.
Scoreless six minutes into the second half, Golden Sierra carried over some late first-half momentum when Lutey-Willard took a pass in the middle, ran toward the goal and smoked a shot that redirected off an El Dorado defender.
Teehee’s side-toss found Cuddy who was fouled in the box for the PK to conclude the scoring.
