El Dorado High’s varsity girls soccer program hosted Galt Thursday, falling 1-0 to the Lady Warriors in Sierra Valley Conference action.
“We played a great first half,” Cougar head coach Chris Herrman said. “We did a lot better opening up our passing and controlling possession — we just struggled to finish on the offensive end.”
Scoreless at half, Galt picked up it’s winning goal on a direct kick in the second, sending one just beyond the reach of sophomore keeper Kylie Haverson.
El Dorado continued to press offensively and earning a penalty kick but Kaylynn Cuddy connected with the crossbar with no opportunity to finish on a put back.
“Kaylynn struck the ball well,” Herrman said. “But it just hit the crossbar and came back where we didn’t really have any chance to do anything with it.”
The game served as Senior Night for four El Dorado players, as the team said farewell to Cuddy, Jo Cade, Mya Leaird and Julia Reyes.
“It would have been nice to get a win as a result to finish the year and boost morale,” Herrman. “It was enjoyable coaching (the seniors) — they played with a positive attitude, they were very easy to coach, just a great group of players to coach.”
El Dorado finishes 0-10-1 in league, 1-14-4 overall.
