Cougars, Trojans at Bronco Invite

FAIR OAKS — The Oak Ridge and El Dorado track and field teams were a part of an 18-team field at last weekend’s Bronco Invitational at Bella Vista High School.

Each team produced a winner. Cougar Matt Johnson took first in the pole vault while Trojan Jacob Sipes won the 300m hurdles. The top six placers earned points for their team.

Johnson won his event in a jump-off, soaring 14-1 for the second-best, all-time record at El Dorado, held by his dad. The competition came down to Johnson, Cougar Sam McCrea and an Elk Grove vaulter. McCrea, who finished third, vaulted 13-7 for a PR of 11 inches higher.

El Dorado came in after its big tri-meet victory earlier in the week over Vista del Lago and River City.

Other Cougars highlights were: Whitney Standal, third in the high jump and 300 hurdles and sixth in the 100 hurdles; Arianna Pizzuti, fourth in the 400m (60.40 third best all-time at El Dorado) and fifth in the 200m; Cambron Lyles, sixth in the 300 hurdles; Caleb Melton, sixth in the shot put; and Andrew Montez, sixth in the discus.

Sipes’ hurdles win, just his third-ever attempt, went for a time of 39.65 for the third fastest, all-time at Oak Ridge. He, along with Dominick Worsham, Zach Youngberg and Bryce Williams ran the 4×100 in 43.40 for another third fastest time in school history.

Other Trojan placers: Lexi Davenport, second in the 100m; Youngberg, third in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles; Will Vaughn third in the high jump; Jake Zeltner, fifth in the 800m; Marcos Conde, fifth in the 3,200m; Ashley Dean, fourth in the pole vault; Kristina O’Donnell, fourth in the high jump, sixth in the 400m; Rachel Peterson, fifth in the 800m, sixth in the 1,600m.

Oak Ridge relay teams that placed were: 4×100 — OR, 4-Jessica Bolton, O’Donnell, Jasmine Pears, Davenport; 4×400 — OR, 2-Davenport, Sabrina Andrus, Caitlin Jolette, O’Donnell; 4×400 — OR, 4-Worsham, Jean-Yves Diei, Nick Menendez, Sipe.
