D’backs, Cougars tonight

Several local games of interest tonight starting with the intra-county matchup between Union Mine and El Dorado. Down in Shingle Springs, Ponderosa has its hands full with undefeated Folsom. Oak Ridge has a tough one against Pleasant Grove at Sheldon High while tomorrow night Golden Sierra takes on Encina at El Camino High.

Union Mine (1-7, 1-3) at El Dorado (2-6, 0-4)

Bragging rights are on the line for this one. Neither team has a shot at the postseason as both try to avoid the Sierra Valley Conference cellar.

D’back Sean Tow comes in after a huge outing last week while the Cougars had aerial success between Nick Bonniksen and Zachary Culp.

Don’t be fooled, this game was circled on the calander last summer. Expect both to go at the other.

Folsom (8-0, 3-0) at Ponderosa (5-3, 1-2)

The Bruins secondary must be ready going against a quarterback, Jake Browning, who’s tossed 36 touchdowns passes so far. Ponderosa really needs to have another Delta River League victory for postseason consideration but this will be a tough one.

The Bruins must click in the pass and run games and come up with a gigantic defensive effort to have a chance.

Oak Ridge (7-1, 2-1) at Pleasant Grove (6-2, 3-0)

The Trojans hope to carry momentum over from last week’s win over Ponderosa. The Eagles, no stranger to section titles, will be tough at home.

Oak Ridge must ratchet up the defense and execute offensively with a balanced scheme to keep Pleasant Grove off stride.

If it’s close in the fourth Troy could get this one.

Golden Sierra (5-3, 4-0) at Encina (3-4, 1-2)

The Grizzlies have a good shot to go unbeaten in the Sierra Delta League and getting there starts with a win against the Bulldogs who are winless at home.

Golden Sierra’s on a good roll and playing well with four straight wins while Encina has dropped three in a row. The Griz get this one.
