ORANGEVALE — Placerville’s Dry Diggins Dolphins started their competitive season with a victory Saturday against the host Orangevale Tigersharks, winning 1,586.5-1,285.5.

Despite the heat, Dolphin swimmers showed up ready to race, evident in many swims throughout the day.

“It was a very exciting first league meet and many personal best times were swam. We have been working hard on the concept of racing, and it was fun to see the kids fight for their finishes,” Dry Diggins coach Kristen Stumbaugh said.

Among these impressive swims was the 15-18 girls 50-yard freestyle in which Ellen Tiedemann, 16, broke an 11-year-old record with a time of 26.20. With a broken record and Saturday’s victory under their belt, the Dry Diggins Dolphins are ready for another great summer season.
