ROCKLIN — The Dry Diggins Dolphins won the Valley Foothill Competitive Athletic League Championship Meet last Saturday at Sierra College to become the first group in the team’s 45-year history to win back-to-back titles.

The Dolphins, with 2,037 total points, won convincingly. Second place Auburn tallied 1,308, Orangevale scored 1,125.5, Cordova netted 965.5, and Arden had 109.

While the Dolphins had many first-place finishes that attributed to their victory, it was the team’s depth that was most responsible.

Ellen Tiedemann, 16, re-broke both of her records at the championship meet, posting a 25.88 in the 50 freestyle and a 56.14 in the 100 freestyle race.

Over all she won three individual events and was on two relay-winning teams. Other Dolphins with three individual wins and a pare of relay victories were: Erin Ling, Dayna Hightower, Colton Fryer and Dylan Thompson. Of the 84 swim events, Dolphins or Dolphin pods won 46 times.

“I am so proud of my team and staff,” coach Kristen Stumbaugh said. ”All season we have talked about what it means to take an individual sport, like swimming, and make it a team sport by swimming with your heart for your team. For the Dolphins to win a repeat championship, we needed each swimmer to swim personal best times, and to focus on swimming for their team.

“They did this, and because of it, we were able to walk away with the win. This was only achieved by the heart of the team, and my staff, that did an incredible job with the team this season. I am so happy to be a part of the Dolphin organization,” she added

The team held its annual awards ceremony the next day, recognizing swimmers in categories of: Most Improved, High Point and Top Dolphins for each age group. The Dolphin seniors: Bryce Bowen, Dakota Keeton, Will Meigs, Jeff Mosbacher, Daniel Pope and Shelby Randall were also honored at the ceremony as were the coaches.
