The Dry Diggins Dolphin swim team won its last dual meet of the season last Saturday against the Arden Manor Pirates at the Union Mine High swimming pool. The win gives the Dolphins an undefeated record in Valley Foothill Competitive Aquatic League play going into the league championship meet this Saturday.
There were many stand out swims and personal best times posted. One swimmer, in particular, stood out, as Ellen Tiedemann, 16, broke the 15-18 girls division in the 100-yard freestyle record with a time of 56.45 seconds. That is Tiedemann’s second record set this season.
Going into their last week of practice, the Dolphins have been talking a lot about what it means to swim for a team, and to swim with pride.
Head coach Kristen Stumbaugh said, “Up to this point in our season, it has been about swimming your best and improving your time individually. Now, with (this Saturday’s championships) right around the corner, it is about believing in your team, and doing what needs to be done to help your team become champions.”
The team, which consists of 213 members, hopes to end this season like last, undefeated and as champions of the league.
