Jared Horstman and Kaden West met 2008 Olympic wrestling gold medalist Henry Cejudo at the National Wrestling Coaches Association VIP luncheon in Fresno this past weekend.
The luncheon was a fundraiser to keep wrestling programs in California in Division I colleges and universities. More than $70,000 was raised by the NWCA.
The 2010 College All Star Classic Dual Meet followed the luncheon. In attendance were Sen. Marco Rubio, Fla., mixed martial arts fighter and former UC Davis wrestler Uriah Faber, Olympic wrestler and MMA fighter Daniel Cormier, NCAA champions Phil Davis and Ben Askren and college coaches from D-I colleges from California and across the nation.
Horstman and West also watched Union Mine graduate and CIF State Tournament runner-up Barrett Abel, who recently transferred to Cal Poly after UC Davis cut its program, compete in the dual meet. Abel, a senior who qualified for the NCAA championships last season, defeated Bakersfield wrestler Andrew Baich 6-1.
