FOLSOM — American River Futbol Club’s (ARFC) Freedom ‘02 girls did outstanding at Folsom’s Summer Challenge Soccer in mid July, finishing 2-1-1 for second place.
The girls battled hard in all four of their games, demonstrating a number of newly acquired skills that included passing and possession. Offensively, the team scored 11 goals and only gave up three. Many different players took advantage of scoring opportunities as the girls came together as a unit for the weekend.
The girls started the tournament strong with a 4-0 shutout over Danville’s Mustang Fusion. In the second match, Freedom ’02 once again saw victory with a 6-1 win over Folsom’s Krushers. In the third game, Freedom ‘02 met their toughest competition yet and tied Roseville’s Top Notch 1-1 to advance to the championship match against Rocklin’s Chili Peppers.
Desplaying heart and determination, the girls battled hard against a tough opponent and dominated in first touches while containing play to their side of the field. Unfortunately, the Chili Peppers were able to score on a breakaway in the last few minutes, resulting in a second place finish for the Freedom ’02.
