Isaac Sanchez earns ‘The Big Break’

Isaac Sanchez is receiving the big break in his golfing career.

A professional golfer for the last 13 years who for the last two has honed his skills at the Cameron Park Country Club, Sanchez, a Folsom resident, will be one of 12 featured golfers appearing on The Golf Channel’s TV reality show “The Big Break. The top prize allows the winner into selected events on certain tours with elite golfers such as Tiger Woods.

The series enters its 18th season that airs Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. on The Golf Channel. Sanchez and his wife, Zoe, and their two children will hold a season premiere party at the Cameron Park Country Club that’s open to the public.

“They have been real good to me,” said Sanchez of the club’s staff members. “I’m excited to have the party there.”

Last week, “The Big Break” aired a sneak peek of the upcoming season to “build up the season,” Sanchez said.

“I’ve watched the show numerous times, and applied in the past,” Sanchez said.

This season, the Folsom resident and the other golfers teed off over the summer at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. How good is the 18-hole course at The Greenbrier? Woods competed in the Greenbrier Classic during the summer.

Due to the disclosure he and the other golfers signed prior to appearing on the show, Sanchez, 33, cannot divulge who won.

“I can’t say anything to anyone about any of the episodes,” Sanchez said. “All I can say is tune in. There’s a bunch of really good players on the show.”

Nine months ago, Sanchez filled out the show’s online application and submitted his impressive golf resume. The former River Pines resident started playing at age 8 and continued through his Amador High School playing days. Sanchez earned a full-ride scholarship to the University of Hawaii after graduating from Amador in 1997, He’s also been a PGA Canadian tour member and a 2006 Mizuno Brand Ambassador. His average tournament score playing three days of 18-hole courses usually hover around 200.
