Few places match the beauty of the Sierra Nevada foothills in the fall and Saturday, Oct. 9 was no exception as InAlliance hosted the second annual Gold Rush Poker Run & Walk with great success.

More than 200 participants gathered on the El Dorado Trail in Placerville to run and walk for people with developmental disabilities. The event featured a 10 mile run, a 10K run, a 5K run/walk and a 1 mile stroll. After weaving their way through El Dorado County, participants enjoyed ample refreshments, vendor booths, an awards ceremony and raffle at Schnell School.

There was more than $8,000 raised to help support employment and living service programs InAlliance provides to people with developmental disabilities throughout El Dorado County. Since 1952, InAlliance has believed that people with developmental disabilities have the right and responsibility to be fully participating members of the community.

Programs include work and life skills training, community education, volunteering, job development and more. Participants in the Gold Rush Poker Run & Walk will play an active part in supporting people who are often overlooked by society.

Jay Aliff, head coach of the Union Mine High cross country team was first to cross the finish line in the 5K race, Ponderosa cross country runners Travis Clausen and Charles Hedin tied for first in the 10 mile run, and Jay Karle of Pollock Pines took home the gold for the 10K. Additional race results can be found by visiting www.inallianceinc.com.

The event would not be possible without the generous support of the community includng Boa Vista Orchard, Bonnefin Studios Photography, Flex Power, Fuel Belt, Go Girl Energy Drink, Harrah’s, Honest Beverages, Janice Walker IT Consulting, Larabar, PowerAde, Road ID, Silver Daises Photography, Sinful Treats, Surewest Foundation and Zone Perfect.
