EL DORADO HILLS — Two minutes into Tuesday’s Delta River League opener, the Oak Ridge High girls soccer team appeared to have momentum on its side.

Trojan forward Hannah Miller drove the ball down her team’s sidelines while battling a Folsom mark and fired the ball into the net for the goal. Oak Ridge wouldn’t score again but Folsom did toward the end of the match to result in a 1-1 tie.

“It was a good start,” Oak Ridge co-head coach Joe Champion said. “We talked about starting the game quickly. I was pleased.”

After Miller’s goal, the Trojans’ next scoring opportunity came at the 19th minute when Anna Lippuner received a pass from Miller, and attempted a straight ahead shot from five yards. But the Bulldog goalie grabbed the ball just in time for the save.

The rest of the first half was played near the middle of the field, as both teams fought for possession.

“Our passing wasn’t good, our touch wasn’t good, attacking wasn’t good, ” Champion said. “We should’ve finished the game.”

In the 53rd minute of the game, Oak Ridge had a chance to make it 2-0 on a penalty kick. Gretchen Goyette took the shot but the ball hit the post and bounced away.

“If we scored, game’s over,” Champion said.

Two minutes later, Caira Woo passed the ball to Miranda Miller near the Bulldogs’ net, but the Folsom goalie caught the ball to record another save.

Folsom scored the tying goal in the 77th minute of the game when Jess Brandt shot the ball in a scramble near the Trojans’ net. Oak Ridge had a chance to score within a minute of each other, but time ran out.
