Oak Ridge’s Ethan Dillard was a double winner — 200 IM with a time of 1 minute, 58.66 seconds and the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1 minute, 1.03 seconds.
The Trojans’ Trevor Dong and Mikayla Mefford also shined. Dong, a senior, took first place in the 100 freestyle and second in the 100 backstroke.
“I like watching other people swimming, to see how far ahead or how far behind I am,” said Dong of favoring the freestyle.
Oak Ridge head coach Patrick Foster added, “Trevor had another great championship. He has proven his strength in the water as a competitor, and on land as a team leader.”
Mefford, also a senior, was second in the 100 freestyle.
“Mikayla has been a great performer and team leader all year,” Foster said. “In and out of the water she has provided team leadership. I am very proud of her.”
Mefford likes the freestyle is best because she “enjoys it a lot more, and I feel I’m better at it. I work more at it than the backstroke.”
Bruins who shined in the finals were Samantha Woo who won the 50 freestyle and was third in the 100 freestyle. Teammate Taylor Lehr was second in the 200 freestyle at 1:53.92.
As a team, the Oak Ridge boys squad, which won both the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay races, finished in second place with 508 points behind league champion Jesuit, which had 605 points. Ponderosa was fifth with 141 points.
The Lady Trojans also took second place with 379.5 points, and league champion St. Francis had 623.5 points. The Lady Bruins was fourth with 271.5 points.
Ponderosa shined in diving of the league meet. The boys took first place, and the Lady Bruins were third.
The Sac-Joaquin Section Trials and Finals are at Tokay High May 15-17.
