Locals prepare for tomorrow’s state meet

FRESNO — Four of the five El Dorado County high schools will be represented at the CIF State Cross-Country Championships at Woodward Park tomorrow.

The Golden Sierra boys squad, which won the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V boys title two weeks ago, headline the list. Grizzly harriers competing are Jason Yurgelevic, Ryan Sewell, David Blanton, Hunter Hughes, Chris Pugh, Nick Blanton and Allan Nicholson.

The El Dorado High girls squad, third place in D-III section meet, sends Kaitlynn Staggers, Qing Swain, Arianna Pizzuti, Celina Vincencio, Dani Destefano, Katherine Buethe and Mariah Thompson.

Competing individually are Oak Ridge’s Rachel Peterson, El Dorado’s Boone Bates and Union Mine’s Allison Babbage, Michelle Gonzalez and Makana Kauhaahaa. Peterson will compete in D-I girls, Bates D-III boys, Babbage and Gonzalez D-IV girls and Kauhaahaa D-IV boys.

The projected times for Saturday’s races are: D-I girls 8:30 a.m.; D-III girls 10:40 a.m.; D-IV boys 11:15 a.m.; D-III boys 12:20 p.m.; D-IV girls 12:50 p.m. and D-V boys 1:25 p.m.
