EL DORADO HILLS — Buoyed by a lead-grabbing 11-0 run to end the first quarter and a defensive effort yielding five points in the middle two, host Oak Ridge easily defeated Del Oro in a mid-afternoon girls nonleague game Saturday.

The victory was the Trojans second straight in less than 24 hours and came on the heels of Friday’s 61-46 Delta River League win at Folsom. Overall, Oak Ridge (20-4) has won its last six.

The Eagles led 4-0 as Troy struggled at the start. Del Oro still led before Oak Ridge came on to go up 19-8 heading to the second quarter. In the first, Ali Bettencourt, Isamar Conde and Briana Dulgar hit three-pointers.

“We started slow offensively but then we answered with the run and had a good four minutes of play,” Trojan coach Steve White said. “Defensively we did a better job on assignments (than last night). We had more patience (with the ball) and didn’t rush.”

Oak Ridge outscored the Eagles 18-1 in the second quarter to lead 37-9 at the break. Jenn Hoffman sank two threes, Conde added another and Jessica Maglietta hit from behind the arc as well.

White turned the court over to the bench for most of the second half. Trojan reverses, led by Maglietta, Celeste Vitolas, Saraya Smith, Michelle Barkley, Yumi Drossos, Lauren Gaddis, Dulgar and Laura Soper held their own against Del Oro’s starters desperately trying to gain ground on the scoreboard. Over the final two quarters the Eagles held a 15-12 scoring edge.

“I asked (the bench) to go against their starters and show that you can compete,” White said. “It helps to play a team that makes deep playoff runs hard and aggressive and gets the message out that we’re pretty good. We’re moving into their league next year so it’s important to set the tone.”

Bettencourt led Oak Ridge with nine points; Conde bucketed eight; Smith scored seven; Hoffman, three; Maglietta, five; Grace Derksen and Vitolas four apiece; and Dulgar and Shelby Peters three points each.
