SAN FRANCISCO — The Oak Ridge girls basketball team eliminated host Lowell by 56-31 in Tuesday's Northern California Regional Tournament opener at Kezar Pavilion.
Seniors Natalie Stone and Dakota McLarnan each sank four three-pointers to lead the offense while Jenna Klein keyed the Trojans' trapping-pressing defense that caused Lowell (28-5) fits.
"They (Lowell) had a hard time with our press and Jenna did a great job up front. That's the first time in awhile our press has been that good," Oak Ridge coach Steve White said. "They were small. We had a size advantage and matched up well."
McLarnan scored 14 points and Stone bucketed 12. Troy led 30-12 at the halftime break.
Next up for Oak Ridge (21-10) is tomorrow's second-round date at top-seeded Berkeley (28-1) in a rematch of last year's NorCal finals.
"They're (Berkeley) very good and have everyone returning except one. It'll be a tough game," White said. "We'll have our work cut out but it's just one game we have to win, not a series."
