EL DORADO HILLS — In preparation for the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships, divers from the Delta River and Metro Leagues came together and held their championships at the El Dorado Hills CSD pool Tuesday.

Teams from around the Sacramento area, including Rosemont, Sheldon, Pleasant Grove, McClatchy, along with Oak Ridge and Jesuit/St. Francis, dueled off. The top four divers from each team automatically advance to the section finals. All Trojan varsity divers qualified.
In the Delta River League girls meet, Oak Ridge sent only two divers to the board but still got great results. Junior Sammy Newman placed fifth out of eight with a score of 283.5; and older sister Sydney Newman took second place with a score of 374. St. Francis had three divers in the top five, including Amy Crane, who won with an All-American qualifying score of 454.45.
Ten boys lined up to compete in the varsity meet with the Trojans sending out four. Oak Ridge had another strong showing as all four divers placed in the top five. Trojan Jordan Gotro finished in first place with the score of 603.20; Thomas Dillon claimed second place with a total of 510.20; Matt Woodruff took third place for the Trojans with a score of 428.03; and Trevor Allen took fifth place with a score of 331.05.
The Trojans advance to the North Diving Trials May 2-3 at Bella Vista. In all, divers from nine league swill compete. The girls trials will be Thursday, May 2, while the boys are in action the following day, Friday, May 3.
The dive finals are Saturday, May 4, at Johansen High in Modesto.
