MODESTO — After two CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoff wins on the home court last week, Oak Ridge took its act on the road Monday and picked up another win, this time by an 8-1 score over host Modesto High.

The victory advanced the Trojans to yesterday’s semifinals at Davis.

Against Modesto, Oak Ridge won 5-of-6 singles matches and swept the doubles. Troy won comfortably except at No. 3 singles which went to the host school.

In singles, Brandon Sutter, Jimmy Giovannini, Charlie Conarro, Simon Chan and Matt Fergerson picked up straight set wins.

In doubles play, Oak Ridge duos Matthew Lai-Clarence Lai, Sam Miller-Max He and Hayden Jacobson-Sangsoo Kim walked away winners.

Individual Sections

Union Mine’s Chandler Bruttig, El Dorado County’s lone representative at last week’s individual section tournament at Johnson Ranch, drew one of the top player’s in the draw, Escalon’s Parker Pilati.

Brutting lost the first set 0-6, losing two games at deuce. Down 1-4 in the second, she rallied for a tie at 5-5 but dropped the next 2 games to fall 5-7.  Once again Pilati played the deuce games very well winning 4 more in the final set.

“I really would have liked to have seen a tiebreaker for the second set and a possible third set.  With Chandler’s ability to play well in long matches the result could have easily swung her way. I’m extremely proud of her efforts,” D’back coach Chris Schnaidt said.
