EL DORADO HILLS — Chubi Ohanele has competed in track and field since he was in middle school and Wednesday against Ponderosa in a Delta River League meet, the Oak Ridge freshman showed he can compete at the varsity level.

Ohanele won the 100 meters at 11.19 seconds. He also took second place in the 200 meters at 22.83 seconds, as Ponderosa’s Kevin Ackernecht won at 22.6 seconds.

Team-wise, the Trojan boys edged the Bruins, 73-63, while the Lady Trojans posted an 85-51 win.

“I just wanted to get out of the box real fast,” said Ohanele of the 100. “Just get out to top speed.”

Ponderosa’s Brittany Anselmo overcame a late start to take first place in the 400 meters, as the senior won at 59.19 seconds. Trojan Caitlin Jolette had led for one-fourth of the race but Anselmo, firing on all cylinders, raced past Jolette and two other Lady Trojans to win.

“I just wanted to win today,” Anselmo said. “It’s only my second time running (the 400) this year.

Anselmo was a double winner, also taking the 800 meters at 2 minutes, 22.5 seconds.

Alex Merry won twice for Oak Ridge in the 1600 (4:47.8) and the 3200 meter (10:45.5) races. Added to the list is Ponderosa’s David Bonzo in the long jump (19 feet, 8 inches) and the triple jump (40 feet, 7 inches).

Sarah Dolley won the 1600 (5;36.8), edging Trojan teammate Rachel Peterson by a second (5:37.7). Dolley also won the 3200 (12:29.3).

Other dual winners for the Lady Trojans were Kathryn Sanders (100mh, 16.34; 300 mh, 49.33). In field events, Atiah Brinson won the shot put (32 feet, 8 1/2 inches) and the discus (93 feet, 1 1/2 inches). Kenna Davidson won the high jump (5-0) and the triple jump (33-8.25) for the Bruins.
