The game was tied at 2-all in the early minutes in the first quarter before attacker Cody Place scored the go-ahead goal with 2:16 left for Oak Ridge (1-1, 3-1). Josh Wellman assisted on the score.
In the second, Oak Ridge continued its aggressive approach with three scores as Wellman, on an assist from Caleb Rich, made it 4-2 and a minute later, Place scored his second goal on an unassisted shot. Attacker Tanner Rosenbaum scored the third goal with 9:18 left, also unassisted.
Lincoln cut Oak Ridge’s lead to 6-3 but Troy scored twice more before halftime when Nick Gordon scored after a Trojan shot bounced off the Lincoln goalie’s stick, and Rosenbaum scored his second goal with 35 seconds left on an assist from Wellman.
“In the last couple of games, we’ve let up some goals in the last-minute,” Oak Ridge head coach Brad Speno said.
Lincoln’s defense kept Oak Ridge in check in the third quarter, allowing only a goal to Wellman. The visiting Trojans scored two goals to trim Oak Ridge’s lead to 9-5.
“They (Lincoln) are an up-and-coming team; they’ve got some good players,” Speno said. “We’ve got to give them credit.”
Troy Attacker Cayd Rich and Rosenbaum scored in the fourth to secure the win.
