The senior took first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.36, and the 100 breaststroke at 1:01.61 in Wednesday’s Delta River League tri-meet with intra-county rival Ponderosa and Sheldon at the CSD pool.
Oak Ridge beat Sheldon, 153-18, in the boys meet and Ponderosa, 121-48. The Lady Trojans also dominated their meet, beating the Lady Huskies 145-39 and the Lady Bruins, 96-78. Scorewise, Ponderosa defeated both Sheldon teams.
Mills was also part of the boys 200 freestyle relay team that earned first-place honors, 1:36.83, and the 400 freestyle relay that also finished first, 3:23.69. His strong performances are starting to improve at the right time, Mills noted.
“Everything is just coming together,” Mills said.
There’s a reason why he prefers to compete in the 100 breast.
“It’s the shortest,” Mills said. “I feel the most comfortable and most relaxed when I swim the breaststroke.”
Ponderosa’s Graham McClone was a top finisher for the Bruins at the tri-league meet. He won the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.47 seconds. He also competed in the 100 freestyle and as a member of the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.
“In the water, out of the water, nice and quick,” said McClone on the 50.
For the girls, Oak Ridge’s Madeline Velez was first in the 100 fly, 1:03.62; and the 500 freestyle, 5:33.02. Ponderosa’s Taylor Lehr was first in the 200 IM, 2:16.92; and the 100 backstroke, 1:01.38.
