PALO ALTO — Oak Ridge senior Rachel Peterson turned in a second place time at last weekend’s Stanford Cross Country Invitational, attended by the Trojan and El Dorado squads.

The invitational, held on Stanford University’s golf course, attracted prep teams from within and outside the state. In addition, collegiate races were held between the high school races.

Both Oak Ridge (Division I) and the Cougars (Division III) sent two varsity teams to the 5,000 meter race. Peterson helped the Lady Trojans to a fifth place standing out of 30 teams with 209 runners. She posted a fast time of 18.45 (6.02 per mile pace) and ran a strategically sound race and passed several competitors late in the race. The girls beat out section rival Woodcreek by two places.

The Oak Ridge boys ran a solid race to take 15th out of 36 teams. Troy was led by freshman Luke Bricca.

BothEl Dorado teams fared well in the Division III races. The boys, led by Boone Bates’ 33rd place finish, came in 16th out of 30 teams while the Lady Cougars took 14th out of the 29 girls teams.

Bates posted a time of 17.00 followed by Ryan Gray’s 17.27 which put him 71st out of 243 harriers. On the girls side, the Cougars were paced by Arianna Pizzuto (21.13) and Dani DeStefano (21.14) who crossed 70th and 71st, respectively.
