The Bruins won the first two sets but dropped the next two before pulling out the victory on Tanner Charron’s deflected kill that ended it.
Wednesday’s match was hard-hitting but not without its defense. For Ponderosa, libero David Timm anchored the defense with 17 digs and 33 service receives against a talented Eagle squad led by Griffin Galvin and Connor Tevenan.
Charron (18 kills) had hitting help from Haward Gomes and Davis Alexander. The trio combined for 35 kills — most on assists from Taylor Charron (37).
Gomes’ block won the first set and Tanner’s kill the second. The Bruins were in excellent position to sweep leading 22-20 late but mistakes and unforced errors kept Vista alive.
The Eagles carried momentum through the fourth set but Kellen Salluce’s block had the Bruins up 5-1 in the fifth-and-deciding set. Vista did pull even but another 5-1 run gave the hosts a 10-6 advantage.
Up 12-9 after an Eagle timeout, Tanner landed an ace, Alexander landed a kill and Tanner followed suit for the victory.
