The Prospector Soccer Club U11 girls’ soccer team, Sparks, placed 1st at their first tournament of the season, American River Futbol Club’s Independence Cup at Cherry Island. Sparks ignited quickly in their first game to win 4-0 against River City United FC Freedom. Goalkeeper Juliet Dias and her defense maintained a shut-out game with shots scored by Luci Gulbransen, Grace Stiveson, Julin Kenison, and Kendel Gisin. In game 2, the girls continued to sparkle playing a tough match against El Dorado Hill SC’s Strikers defeating them 3-2. Gulbransen once again started the goals, next was Ainsley Smith, then with less than a minute to go, Ashley Abel shot in the winning goal! Game 3, ended in a sizzling 1-1 tie with a goal scored by Gisin. This advanced them to the championship round to face RCU’s Freedom again but coming out with a 2-1 victory for the championship.
