Sierra U12 Gold Cougars win at HalloweenFest

By December 5, 2010

The Sierra Gold Cougars won the orange division of the 2010 Sierra Gold Halloweenfest. The tournament included Under 10, U 11, U 12 and U 14 girls and boys teams. The U 12 boy had two divisions of eight teams.

The games were all played at Lotus-Henningsen Park with heavy rains on Saturday and sunny weather on Sunday. The Cougars won three games to get to the finals, downing the Prospector Tsunami 4-1, the 49er Rush 5-0 and the El Dorado Hotspurs 3-2.

In the championship game against the El Dorado Hills Avengers, the Cougars played great ball control soccer and lived up to their team motto, “Let the ball do the work,” winning a hard-fought 3-1 victory.

“I was so proud to see the boys play such great soccer. They played every game as if it was the final always focusing on ball control first and scoring second,” Coach Tom White said. “I think that is the biggest reason why they are 6 -1 in the regular season. And they still have room to improve.”

The Gold Cougars are: Tomas Ventura, Nick Kull, Eric Rios, Weston Able, Fernando Esparza, Josh Morgan, Ethan Weiner, David Beal, Dillon Able-Smith, Mateo Dias, Devin Anderson, Manuel Rios, Luis Cisneros, Kyle Bell and Bert Santana.

The team is coached by White, Jeff Alexander and Chantelle Toste.
