Four El Dorado County boys are going to Florida’s Disney World in August but roller coaster rides and Mickey Mouse will be secondary on their list of things to do.

The quartet is members of Hard 90, a competitive 9-and-under traveling baseball team based out of El Dorado Hills. This summer the squad, featuring Roanin Krieger of Placerville and Landon Weiss, Brent Jones and Andrew Uharriet from El Dorado Hills, will compete in the USSSA Elite World Series at the Disney World Sports Complex.

Hard 90 is one of 32 teams competing for the World Series trophy.

So far, the team has a record of 41-16 with six tournament championship titles since forming last May. The squad has also brought home five second-place finishes in a combined 16 tournaments.

Some tournament highlights were Kreiger’s MVP honors after hitting two home runs and Jacob Peterson (Pioneer) earning all-tournament honors.

Hard 90 is ranked fifth in points in Northern California among USSSA AAA teams and second in power rating. In addition, they are ranked 24th in the country among USSSA AAA teams in national points and sixth in power rating.

According to John Alkire, Hard 90’s manager, this is the first time that any Hard 90 squad has won their way to an Elite World Series since the program started in 2005.

Hard 90 is part of a baseball academy in El Dorado Hills. Rick Sunberg, who played in the California Angels’ system in the 1980s, started the academy. Hard 90 and other squads that play at the academy have travel baseball teams for ages 9 to 18. Sunberg said workouts are open to the public.

“Teams come in and train with us,” Sunberg said. “We also have five weeks of summer camps and coaching clinics. We’re busy.”

Hard 90 is busier trying to raise money for the trip to Florida. According to Alkire, the cost for the entire trip is approximately $11,000 for round trip air fare and hotel accommodations.
