Golden Sierra 28, Mesa Verde 26 — In the how-did-they-win-this-one category, the Grizzly girls shot 16 percent from the field, made just five of 26 free throws and committed 25 turnovers, yet, behind a 15-10 fourth quarter, rallied for the two-point preseason win Tuesday on the Mavericks’ court.
Golden Sierra went scoreless in the first quarter to trail 6-0. Mesa led at halftime 12-6 and 16-13 at the third-quarter break before the Grizzlies came back.
Emily Matthews, Rachel Parkhurst and Sarah Scroggins each had six points in the win for Golden Sierra. Gwen Brown pulled down 15 rebounds while Matthews corralled another seven and Emily Reddish had five. Daysa Thompson and Reddish each had four steals while Brown and Scroggins both had three. Reddish blocked two shots.
