Union Mine 49, Vista del Lago 48 — In Monday’s Sierra Valley Conference finale in Folsom, Union Mine (7-5, 20-7) jumped out to an 11-4 first quarter lead and held on for its 20th win of the season. The Diamondbacks led 29-20 at halftime. Sonya Watson scored a seaon-high 17 points followed by Kimmee Mueller with 14. Deyanira Ventura and Brianna Lara scored five points each; Stephanie Preacher, four; Madison Aliff, three; and Alex Smith, one, Mueller had 11 of the D’backs’ 34 rebounds. The victory marks the first time in the D’backs’ program that a girls hoops squad has posted 20 wins in a season. Union Mine advances to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs as the No. 14 seed. The Diamondbacks open the first round on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at No. 3 Bradshaw Christian of Sacramento.
