Boys basketball

Golden Sierra 65, Rio Vista 29 — The Grizzlies (1-5, 6-11) jumped out to a 12-8 lead in the first quarter of Friday’s Sierra Delta League game, and led 25-12 en route to their first league win of the season. Rocky Sacks had a double-double for Golden Sierra; he had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Jason Yurgelevic followed in scoring for the Grizzlies with 13 points. Brenden Nutt had seven, Jason Boyle six and Bryan Campbell and Nick White scored five apiece. Golden Sierra had 41 rebounds and recorded 16 steals. 
Oak Ridge 39, Sheldon 57
— In Friday’s Delta River League game in Sacramento, the Trojans led 16-14 after the first quarter. But the defending league and Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champion Huskies held Oak Ridge (2-2, 12-9) to eight points while Sheldon scored 20 points for a 34-24 halftime lead. Sheldon outscored Oak Ridge in the second half, 33-15. Josh Simms led the Trojans in scoring with eight points. Grant Dean, Bryan Bare and Tyler Hatten scored six points each. Jared Casey-Holland followed with four, Evan Gross three and Matt Battagila two.
Ponderosa 44, Folsom 53 — The Bruins and Bulldogs combined for 14 points in the first quarter in Friday’s Delta River League game. But in the second quarter, host Folsom jumped out to an 18-11 lead for a 23-20 halftime lead. The Bulldogs were able to outscore the Bruins (0-4, 7-13) in the second half, 30-24 for the win. Chris Snyder had 13 points for the Bruins, followed by Trevor Hammitt with 10. Curtis Opsahl had nine, Marcus Forbes six, Josh Bist four and Jacob Bist two.
Union Mine 56, Vista del Lago 71 — Behind 25-18 at halftime in Thursday’s Sierra Valley Conference game in Folsom, Union Mine, along with Vista, combined for 47 points in the third quarter; the Diamondbacks (0-4, 9-10) scored 23 points. Although lowering the Eagles’ lead, 49-41, going into the fourth quarter, Vista outscored Union Mine, 22-15 for the win. Three Union Mine players scored in double figures; Scott McIntyre had 11 points and Alec Vaughn and Austin Russell scored 10 points each. Daniel Saich followed in scoring with nine, Sam Fluery 8 and Sean Verbitsky, Derek Stirling and Josh Richards had two points each.
El Dorado 55, River City 70 — In Thursday’s Sierra Valley Conference game in West Sacramento, the visiting Cougars (2-3, 6-13) outscored the Raiders in the second quarter, 17-12, to cut River City’s lead to 32-28 at halftime. But the Raiders outscored the Cougars in the fourth quarter, 27-9, to notch the victory. Daniel Vance scored 14 points for El Dorado. Soren Shepard followed with nine and Aaron Line, Matt Smith and Tommy Williams scored eight points each. Sean Gregg and Justin Morrison scored four points each for the Cougars. Vance had eight rebounds and Line six.
