Baseball

El Dorado 7, River City 6 — Chris Swineford’s dash to the plate without a throw in the top of the 10th inning Monday broke a tie as the Cougars won their Sierra Valley Conference opener over the host Raiders, coached by former El Dorado coach Jeff Cox. Swineford and Nick Bonniksen had both singled and Bonniksen’s delayed break for second drew River City’s attention, enabling Swineford to score the winning run from third base. Bonniksen pitched the first seven innings and Owen MacKendrick the final three to earn the win. The Raiders forced extra innings with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. For El Dorado, Swineford went 2-for-4 with a double and MacKendrick and Tim Hinrichs each doubled.
