EL DORADO HILLS — On the white board inside the Oak Ridge baseball team’s dugout reads, “Adversity or failure allows us the opportunity to reach our potential.”

In the bottom of the seventh inning of Saturday’s Delta River League home game against Pleasant Grove, the Trojans faced the adversity of a 2-all tie but used the opportunity to produce a 3-2 victory, helping Oak Ridge (2-1, 4-5) win the season series.

Trojan Mickey Meinhofer led off the inning by smacking a change-up down the left field line for a double. Meinhofer (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) scored the winning run when Tyson Solis (2-for-3) poked a single into left-center field, ingniting a dog-pile celebration near second base.

“I saw the change-up and unloaded,” Meinhofer said. “My teammates picked me up.”

Trojan coach Todd Melton added, “He’s clutch. He’s a good ball player.”

Solis is a junior, but Melton points out the designated hitter has been playing like a veteran recently.

“He’s come out swinging right from the start,” Melton said.

Oak Ridge scored both of its runs in the bottom of the third inning. After Chris Roppolo and Meinhofer singled, Solis delivered Roppolo with a hit and Tanner Ales (2-for-3) sent Meinhofer around the bases on a single to left.

Pleasant Grove (1-2, 5-4) scored a run each in the top of the third and fifth innings. The Eagles had eight hits in the game.

Austin Vail started on the mound for Oak Ridge and was relieved by Jeff Cunningham in the fifth inning.

Oak Ridge had seven hits in the game. Kyle Barisone went 2-for-3 that included a double in the bottom of the fourth inning.
