Sports Scene: July 11, 2013

El Dorado Hills CSD

EURO Soccer Camp (ages 5-15)
This camp is coached by professionally certified Scottish Coaches who are also physical education teachers. This combination adds to their ability to work with and motivate the kids in learning the sport of soccer. Half day camp is July 22-26 from 8:30–11:30 a.m. at the CSD North and South Fields. Also offered is a half day goalie camp running on the same dates, times and locations. This is a separate camp so participants need to pick between the two offerings as they cannot participate in both. Fall Youth Basketball (grades 1–8)
The focus of this league is to play and improve in the game of basketball in a fun, yet competitive environment. The league plays full court for 3rd graders and above with younger grades playing on a smaller court with a lowered hoop. Practices begin in August with games played on Saturday mornings from Sept. 7 to Oct. 26. Registration is $132 ($147 after deadline if space available) and includes uniform and personalized award for each child. Grades may be combined to form teams if necessary. Adult 3×3 Basketball
Teams play 7 games followed by play-offs for the top four teams. Games are played at the CSD Gym on Wednesday evenings from Aug. 7–Sept. 25 with a team fee of only $145. Adult Softball
Select from multiple nights from Tuesday Coed, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday Men’s Leagues. All games are played at the Promontory Community Park Adult Softball Field. Seven games are followed by play-offs for the top four teams in each division. Games start in early August with a deadline of July 26 (or when full). Call the registration desk at 916-933-6624 for more details. Team fee is $450.

Monday Night Pick-Up League (Coed)
Teams are formed each Monday night of this 8 week season. Fee is only $20 for the entire season. Season runs from July 29 -Sept. 23 with no game on Labor Day. For more specifics, call Frank at 916-614-3223.

Placerville Recreation and Parks Department

Jr. Cougars Youth Football Camp
Agility, conditioning and fundamental skills will be highlighted at the Jr. Cougars’ high quality camp July 22-26 at El Dorado High. No pads/helmets will be used. Offensive and defensive skills and techniques will be emphasized. Running shoes, t-shirt and shoes required. Wear sunscreen. Bring water. Camp is 6-8 p.m. and cost $50. Jr. Golf Camp
For ages 6-18. Join Apple Mountain Golf Course staff for a camp designed to introduce juniors to the game of golf. Fundamentals, etiquette and basic rules will be covered. Proper golf attire is required and participants should bring their own clubs. If you need to borrow, make that know when registering. Camp is Tues/Thurs July 23 to Aug. 1 Ages 6-9 are 9-10:30 a.m.; Ages 10-14 are 10:45 – 12:15 p.m.; Ages 15-18 between 12:30 and 2 p.m. Fee is $70 per session. Cameron Park CSD

UK Soccer Camps
For ages 4-16 at Christa McAuliffe Park July 29 through Aug. 2. Learn and develop under the guidance of coaches primarily from Great Britain. Half camp for ages 4-16, 9 a.m. – noon cost $95/$90 with CP resident discount. Full day camp for ages 8-16, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. cost $154/$149 resident. Hunter Safety
For ages 10+ at the Social Room, Community Center. Obtain class manual from CSD office. Study manual and/or online ar dfg.ca.gov. May receive hunter saftey certificate same day. Classroom instruction only. There will be firearm handling. Subjects include ethics, ecology, wildlife management, conservation, survival, first aid and DFG codes.
