Self defense

This class sponsored by Placerville Recreation for ages 18 and up is great for anyone who wants to work on hand/foot and eye coordination. Students work on strikes, kicks, blocks, focus and self-discipline. Fee of $119 includes a free uniform. The next classes at Foothill Taekwondo in Placerville, 1319 Broadway, will run on Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 22-Dec. 19, from 7-7:45 p.m. Classes at Cameron Park Taekwondo, 3181 Cameron Park Drive, No. 103, will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 22-Dec. 19, from 7:30-8:15 p.m. The instructors are Bob and Connie Westphal.

Hatha yoga

Hatha yoga classes sponsored by Placerville Recreation strengthen weak areas and stretches stiff parts to realign the entire body. Learn to release physical tension and psychological resistance through yoga postures. The class taught by Michael Shaw is designed to introduce new students to basic yoga postures and challenge experienced students. Bring a firm blanket, bare feet and an empty stomach. Wear comfortable clothes and respect a scent-free environment. The next sessions are on Mondays, Oct. 15-Dec. 10, from 10:30 a.m.-noon or 7-8:30 p.m. The fee is $60.

Adult coed soccer

This coed 7 vs. 7 league plays on Wednesday nights at the El Dorado Hills Promontory Community Park’s synthetic field. The next league season will run Nov. 7-Jan. 9, 2013. The fee is $652 per team which includes playoffs for the top four teams. If enough teams register, two divisions will be created, otherwise a single league will be formed. Call the El Dorado Hills CSD registration desk before the Oct. 26 deadline to register a team.

Youth basketball league

Join this fun, eight-week recreational league sponsored by the El Dorado Hills CSD and learn the fundamentals while building or expanding on existing basketball skills. Youth in grades 3 and above play on a full court; kids in lower grades play on smaller courts with lowered hoops.  Games are played at the CSD Gym and other local gyms, Jan. 5-Feb. 23, 2013, with practices beginning in December. The $132 registration fee includes a uniform and personalized award for each child. Grades may be combined to form teams. This league fills up fast; the deadline to register is Oct. 19. Call the CSD desk or go online for more information.

Tennis team camp

Students on high school tennis teams or who are interested in participating will find this camp sponsored by Placerville Recreation a place to learn, grow and have fun in the process. Join El Dorado High tennis coach, Jill Mitchell, to advance your game with conditioning, attention to stroke mechanics, serves, strategy, practice drills and shot selection. Games and competitions will also be included. Sign up for one week or all three. Camp will be held at El Dorado’s newly resurfaced tennis courts on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 23-25; Oct. 30-Nov. 1; and Nov. 6-8, from 3:45-5 p.m. The fee is $25 per week or $68 for all three sessions.
