Don’t miss out on the Foothill Thrower’s 3rd annual Shot Put & Discus Clinic January 12 at Ponderosa High School from 8-4 p.m.
The track group’s clinic will feature 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist and current American Record Holder in the Women’s Discus, Stephanie Brown-Trafton who’ll head up the coaching staff that includes: Jeff Magley, Sacramento State University’s Head Throws Coach; Dave Popejoy, 1996 Olympic Hammer Thrower and all-time top thrower in the hammer at Stanford; Mike Curry, Head Coach for the Golden State Throwers and throws coach at Elk Grove High School; Dana Fahey and Ron Beach, Cal Poly Track and Field alumnus; and Dave Mosbacher, throws coach at Ponderosa High School.
The clinic will expose boys and girls ages 12-18 to the possibilities that Track and Field, specifically Shot Put and Discus, provides to students who may haven’t considered it as a means to cover the ever-increasing costs to attend college.
The clinic’s focus will provide various levels of skills training/exercises in proper shot put and discus techniques. This year’s venue also includes an introduction to the hammer throw with demonstrations by Popejoy and Curry as well as a break-out session for those interested in learning more about the hammer throw.
The clinic costs $20 per athlete and includes lunch and a t-shirt. Space is limited to 50 participants and is on a first-come basis. Please contact Dave Mosbacher at (530)417-4211 or via e-mail at Foothillthrowers@yahoo.com to register and for space availability and any questions.
